Katrathal

Katrathal (Hindi: कटराथल) is an ancient historical village in Sikar tehsil of Sikar district in Rajasthan, India. It is situated at a distance of 10 km from Sikar on SikarJhunjhunu Road. This ancient village is believed to be founded about 5000 years back. The ruins of Buddhist temples are found in the village. The village derives its name from combination of Sanskrit words ‘Katra’ (a market surrounded on all sides by walls) + ‘Sthal’ (place). (Katra+Sthal = Katrathal). It is well connected by rail and road. As of 2001 census, the population of the village is 11,798, out of them 1702 are SC and 29 are ST people.

There is an ancient Temple of Shree Raghunathji having approx. 300 Bighas agricultural land gifted to Mahant Maharaj of Temple with Tamra Patra by Sikar Jagir Rao Raja Sir MADHO SINGH Bahadur 1866/1922, born 1860, adoptive son of his predecessor and son of Thakur Birad Singh of Deeppura, he was granted the title of Bahadur in 1886, K.C.I.E [cr.1.1.1922] , he constructed the Madhav Niwas Kothi; married and had issue. He died 28th June 1922 at Sikar. Some Jat Community (Specially Garhwals) believe that this temple was prepared by their ancestors. Villagers believe in this temple & its Mahant very much.

The village is believed to be associated with the King Kichak. Kichak was the brother of queen of King Virata, the king of Matsya. Kichak was slain by Bhima during one year of incognito exile spent by Pandavas at the court of king Virata.

In the ancient time the village was inhabited by Buddhist people. In later peiod there were Jains, Oswals etc but they migrated elsewhere. Now the village has about 2200 families.
