Originally licensed in 1982, the station operated with a commercial format until financial issues caused it to go dark (go off the air). The station was purchased by Family Radio in 1985 for $136,000 with the transaction finalized in January 1986 and returned to the air with studios in Rockville Center. In 1998 the studios were moved to the transmitter site on Penfield Drive in
