water wheel within theNorth of England Lead Mining Museum , atKillhope inWeardale ,County Durham ,England .Killhope is in the heart of the
North Pennines - anArea of Outstanding Natural Beauty and designated the firstGeopark inGreat Britain in 2003 - and can be found on the A689 between Stanhope and Alston.Restoration of Killhope started in 1980, and today Killhope is the most complete lead mining site in Britain. Restoration of the machinery is continuing. Neighbouring Killhope other points of interest can be visited, for example "Allenheads Heritage Centre" and "Nenthead Mines". Numerous lead mining remains can be see on the the "Lead Mining Trail" leading across high moorland.
