"The Deluge" ( _pl. Potop) is a
historical novel by the Polish authorHenryk Sienkiewicz , published in1886 . It is the second volume of a three-volume series known to Poles as "the Trilogy," having been preceded by "With Fire and Sword " ("Ogniem i mieczem", 1884) and followed by "Fire in the Steppe " ("Pan Wołodyjowski", 1886). The novel tells a story of a fictionalGrand Duchy of Lithuania soldier and nobleAndrzej Kmicic and shows a panorama of thePolish-Lithuanian Commonwealth during the historical Deluge which was a part of the Northern Wars.Film adaptations
The novel was adapted for the screen by Polish director
Jerzy Hoffman in 1974, as "The Deluge". The role of Andrzej Kmicic was played by Polish actorDaniel Olbrychski .ee also
