Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company

The Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Company is a professional theatre company in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada founded in October, 1962. Its current mandate is to exclusively mount productions of contemporary theatre. The theatre company is based at the Vancouver Playhouse, which is also home to the Vancouver Recital Society and the Friends of Chamber Music.

The Playhouse Theatre Company has had many prominent Canadian directors serve as artistic director over the years including Christopher Newton, Joy Coghill and Walter Learning. The current artistic director is Glynis Leyshon, who was appointed in 1997. In August 2007 she announced she would be stepping down at the end of the 2007/2008 season. She will succeeded by Max Reimer who will have the new title of Artistic Managing Director.

A major fundraiser for the company is the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival, which has been held since 1979. The Playhouse often partners with the Studio 58 theatre and production program to apprentice students and graduates.
