The town is at coord|48|15|N|11|39|E|, near the River Isar and the A9 autobahn. A
Munich U-Bahn metro line terminates at the university and research facilities near the town. It is only two U-Bahn stops fromFröttmaning which has the newly builtAllianz Arena .Like many places near Munich, Garching bei München is a reasonably safe town. Various restaurants are scattered through town, but mainly in the center. The town is quiet and quaint, and has virtually no nightlife.
