Tresor Mputu (born 10 December 1985) is a Congolese football striker.

Club career

Mputu currently plays for his homeland club TP Mazembe.

He has been described by former Cameroon and Congo coach Claude Le Roy as being better than Samuel Eto'o, who he picked for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France as a 17 year-old. Fact|date=January 2008

Mputu helped his club, Mazembe, reach the African Champions League 2007, by becoming the top goalscorer of the competition with 9 strikes, and the Confederation Cup.

In November 2007, it was reported that English Premiership giants Arsenal were interested in signing Mputu, for £500 000 [http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/7080394.stm] , with the Congolese striker due in England for a 10 day trial.

In May 2008 Mputu went to Piraeus, for a trial at Olympiacos. His co-player in the National Team of Congo, Lomana Tresor Lua Lua suggested him as a good transfer, however no deal was completed.

On 9th October 2008 Hull City are reported to be interested in Mputu. A move could be possible in January.

International career

Tresor Mputu is one of the finds of Congolese football in recent times. He was a member of the Congolese 2006 African Cup of Nations team, who progressed to the quarter finals, where they were eliminated by Egypt, who eventually won the tournament. Although he played in only two games, he scored the first goal in DR Congo's game against Togo, but was sent off in his second game against Angola in the first 19 minutes for lashing out against an Angolan defender. His subsequent suspension for the straight red meant he missed the rest of his nation's campaign.
