- Wales Book of the Year
Wales Book of the Year prizes are awarded annually to the best Welsh and
English language works in the fields offiction andliterary criticism by Welsh or Welsh interest authors.Established in 1992, the awards are currently administered by the
Academi , and supported by theArts Council of Wales ,Welsh Assembly Government and theWelsh Books Council . In 2006, the prizes were each £10,000. In 2007, for the first time, four runners-up (two in each language) also each received £1000.Recent winners

There was some controversy at the 2008 ceremony when
Plaid Cymru Assembly MemberRhodri Glyn Thomas incorrectly announced the winner as being novelistTom Bullough , who was in fact one of the shortlisted authors but not the outright winner. The prize went toDannie Abse . Thomas resigned from his post on the Welsh Assembly cabinet less than three weeks later.External links
