Evans Cherry

Evans Cherry

A sour cherry fruit rediscovered in an old orchard near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is significant as it was once thought that cherries would not grow in the harsh climate of Canada prairies, yet the first specimen, discovered, or more accurately, re-discovered, by Ieuan Evans, had been growing in a local garden since the 1920s. Mr. Evans once thought it originated in Minnesota but according to more recent reports he believes it may have come from Alaska where they were given out to settlers.
