History

The Post Office opened on 6 October 1890 next to the surveyed railway which arrived in 1892. Citation

The Town today

It has an unusually high number of art and craft shops, catering to tourists who pass through the town on their way to Wilson's Promontory. Fish Creek Memorial Hall, built in 1930, is under threat of demolition. Some of the local residents are attempting to save it, by raising funds through sales from an impromptu opportunity shop (charity shop) that they have set up in the hall.
