The Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden was founded in 1808 by John VI of Portugal. It is located in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood. Open to the public on most days during daylight hours, the Botanical Garden is also a research institute that houses collections that include bromeliads, orchids, carnivorous plants, and cacti.
