13 June 1962 inScotland ) is a retiredAustralia nfootball (soccer) player. He moved toAustralia as a young child. He began his professional career withAdelaide City in 1981, and made his Australia debut againstTaiwan that same year. He made 44 appearances for the national team, scoring 13 goals.Playing career
In a
journeyman career, Mitchell played for clubs inEngland ,Scotland ,The Netherlands ,Germany ,Turkey ,Malaysia andHong Kong , before returning toAustralia to coachSydney Olympic ,Sydney United andParramatta Power in theNational Soccer League . He was the assistant manager toRon Smith atA-League club ALeague PG for the 2006/2007 season and the first half of the 2007/2008 season before before taking the top position after Smith's sacking. He has appeared as a guest on several occasions for theAustralia n cable television channelFox sports 1 which cover the English Premier League. He notably scored the winner in the 1995 Malaysia Cup final; this was agolden goal , the first golden goal to be scored in a Malaysia Cup final.Managerial career
David's coaching career in the
NSL spanned six seasons and 154 matches, in which he recorded 68 wins, 31 draws and 55 losses. When he returned from playing inEurope he was a player/coach for clubsSydney Olympic andSydney United . Some of the coaching achievements that he had inAustralia was a Grand Final appearance in 1998/99 withSydney United and also being the inaugural coach ofParramatta Power in 1999/00. He coachedMalaysia second tier clubSarawak and left due to unpaid wages. He returned toAustralia to coachSydney Schoolboy side St Aloysius' College, before leaving to joinPerth Glory as assistant toRon Smith . He also used to be a scout forFeyenoord , acknowledging them aboutBrett Emerton ,Brett Holman andStephen Laybutt .He has also been recruited by
Australia nTechnical director Rob Baan as an assistant coach for theAustralia national under-23 football team squad, who were preparing for theBeijing Olympics .It was speculated that after the sacking of
