New South Wales ,Australia .The Alpine Way starts near Jindabyne on the eastern side of theSnowy Mountains . It runs south-west pastThredbo and crosses the crest of theGreat Dividing Range at Dead Horse Gap. It then winds around the western side of the range along the upper reaches of theMurray River , past the Geehi River to Khancoban, connecting with theMurray Valley Highway .The Alpine Way was built about 1950 as part of the access for the
Snowy Mountains Scheme and paving of the road was completed in the 1990s. It is winding and very scenic.ee also
