Timeline of the North African Campaign

This is the timeline of the North African Campaign.

1940

* June 11:
**Italy declares war on the Allies.
** The Royal Air Force bombs airfields and petrol dumps in Italian East Africa and Libya.
** British armoured cars cross into Libya from Egypt and destroy several Italian trucks near Fort Capuzzo.
** Italy bombs Aden and Port Sudan.
* June 12: RAF forces bomb Tobruk.
* June 13: British forces capture Fort Capuzzo and La Maddalena. They destroy the guns and defenses before withdrawing back to Egypt.
* June 14: Italians bomb Alexandria.
* June 28: Marshal Italo Balbo, Governor-General of Libya, is shot down by friendly anti-aircraft fire.
* July 1: Marshal Rodolfo Graziani replaces the deceased Balbo.
* July 4:
** Italy again bombs Alexandria.
** Italy captures the British outposts of Kassala and Gallabat.
* July 13: Italy attacks the British garrison at Moyale.
* July 25: Italy bombs the British naval base at Alexandria and the base at Haifa.
* August 2: Reports of Italy massing troops near Libyan border.
* August 4: Italy invades British Somaliland, with about 25,000 troops it pushes the British back to Berbera.
* August 5: Italian airforce raids Aden, Berbera, Burao and Zeila. Italy captures Zeila.
* August 6: Italy reaches Odweina. Conflict against the British at Hargeisa and Tug Argan.
