John Kerr, Sr. (soccer)

John Kerr, Sr. is a former North American Soccer League and Canadian international soccer midfielder.

A native of Scotland, Kerr emigrated to the Toronto area before going on to play 9 NASL summers - 1968 with the Detroit Cougars, 1970 and '71 with the Washington Darts, 1972 through 1975 with the New York Cosmos, and 1976 and '77 with the Washington Diplomats. He was the league's 14th leading scorer with Washington in '71 with 18 points in 24 games. In 1972 he was again the league's 14th top scorer with 10 points in 14 games with the Cosmos and was named league First Team All-Star at midfield.

Kerr played 10 times for Canada, 4 times in World Cup qualifying in 1968, five times in W.C. qualifying in 1976 and once in a 1977 friendly. Canada failed to qualify for either W.C..

Kerr was head coach of the Richmond Kickers in 1993-94.

He was the Major League Soccer's Players Association executive director during the late 1990s.

Kerr's son John Kerr, Jr. is a former American international.

Kerr is currently Technical Director of the F.C. Greater Boston Bolts youth soccer club.
