Opened in 1930, Mackenzie School was named for Sir Alexander Mackenzie, a Canadian trader-explorer and first non-native to travel overland to both the Arctic and Pacific Oceans. Mackenzie school has been expanded and renovated over the years, a school beautification project has enhanced the outdoor play areas and landscaping. A Capital Project for an addition of several new classrooms and ancillary services was completed in March 2001.
Programs
There Are many Different kinds of programs that are held in Mackenzie. Some are Hosted by The John Oliver Students.Such as: Home work club where some John Oliver students will help you with your home work after school. HIP HOP (gr. 4-7) Nov. 2 - Dec. 7 3:00 to 4:15pm, Which is held in the Activity Room.
Other programs are also hosted by the YMCA. Such as:YMCA BASKETBALL (gr. 3-5)Starting around November and ends on March 14 3:00 to 4:15 And is held at the GYM.BAKE SALE The YMCA bakes delicious goodies for students and teachers to buy. Held at the Lunch room, after school.
Activities
There are many opportunities for participation in extra-curricular activities through involvement in athletics, music, peer helper, drama, science, arts and crafts, and service clubs.
