Becky Blasband

Rebecca "Becky" Blasband (born July 8, 1967, in New Hope, Pennsylvania) is a singer/ songwriter and screenwriter known as a cast member on "", the first season of MTV's reality television show "The Real World".

Early life and education

Growing up on a 200 year old farm, Blasband studied music with a private tutor and attended Buckingham Friends and Friends Select School in Philadelphia. At thirteen years old she studied theater with John Strasberg and the Mirror Repertory Company in New York City.Fact|date=January 2008

Blasband attended New York University’s Film School/Tisch School of the Arts and studied dramaturgy and play writing at Playwright’s Horizons studio. For three years, Blasband studied theater with David Mamet, William H. Macy and Steven Schachter in Vermont and Lincoln Center NY. She performed with and participated in the founding years of the Atlantic Theater Company as well as performing off Broadway. During her years of theater, Blasband performed her original songs in downtown clubs of NYC.Fact|date=January 2008

"The Real World"

Blasband's music career received strong industry attention and she was cast in the very first season of MTV's reality television show, "The Real World", which was originally created as an MTV documentary on young artists in NYC ,and became a groundbreaking series. The show reached over 55 million households worldwide, was featured in the museum of television and radio, and gave the first cast members a strong pop-cultural identity.

During the course of the series had a romance with the show's director, Bill "Corky" Richmond. During the show, the three female cast members were sent to Jamaica's Hedonism II resort. In one episode, Blasband had a heated argument with her African-American roommate, Kevin Powell, about the quality of life in The United States, and racism. Both called each other a racist and the argument was heightened by the national attention of the Rodney King police beating. Blasband said that the intense argument match was completely blown out of proportion and edited to portray her and Powell as deliberately obtuse and ignorant.Fact|date=January 2008

After "The Real World"

After "The Real World" concluded, Blasband toured with and opened for Squeeze, Aimee Mann, Bon Jovi, Fountains of Wayne, Chris Whitley and Matchbox 20, and solo as headliner. Signed to Mercury/PolyGram and Warner Chappell Music Publishing, Blasband released the LP entitled "Rapt". Manager Miles Copeland invited her to participate in his two week troubadour’s writer’s workshop in his chateau in France, along with eighteen other talents including Cher, Patty Smyth and Chris Difford.Fact|date=January 2008

Blasband continues to perform and record original music. In screenwriting, she has partnered with Lance Khazei,to produce an animated sitcom television series. Blasband and Khazei have also co-written a high adventure action romance feature film.Fact|date=January 2008
