Agen Cathedral

Agen Cathedral

Agen Cathedral (French: "Cathédrale Saint-Caprais d'Agen") is a Roman Catholic cathedral, and national monument of France, located in Agen.

The cathedral of Saint-Caprais or Saint Caprasius is the seat of the Bishop of Agen. It was initially a collegiate church of canons and became the cathedral of Agen in 1801, replacing the old cathedral of Saint-Etienne, which was destroyed during the Revolution.

The structure dates back to the 12th century and as with many churches in southern France, is in the form of a Latin cross. The nave dates from the 13th century. The bell tower was constructed in the 19th century.
