Hartmann's pouch

Hartmann's pouch

Hartmann’s pouch is an out-pouching of the wall of the gallbladder at the junction of the neck of the gallbladder and the cystic duct. It is probably caused by a single large stone lodged at the junction for a long time as the Hartmann's pouch is not usually found in the normal anatomy. Its identification is useful in delineating biliary anatomy when performing a cholecystectomy.

It is named after Henri Albert Hartmann who first described it. [WhoNamedIt|synd|3069]
