O País do Carnaval (The Country of the Carnival) is a Brazilian Modernist novel. It was written by Jorge Amado in 1931.It is an account of the Brazilian intelligentsia in the 1920s. Paul Rigger is the book's main character.In this first novel, already, though embryonic, the various themes of the author. Rigger Paulo, Brazilian intellectual training in Europe, want to participate in the political and intellectual life of the country.
