Columbia University . In 2006-07, his fourth season on Morningside Heights, theRonkonkoma, New York , native led the Lions to a 7-7Ivy League finish, their first .500 record since 1999-2000. Their 16-12 overall record was the team's best since 1992-93.Jones succeeded
Armond Hill after the 2002-03 season, when Columbia finished 0-14 in the Ivy League, 2-25 overall. In his first season, the Lions finished 6-8 in the league, 10-17 overall -- the third-best single-season improvement in conference history.Through five seasons under Jones, Columbia is 27-43 in Ivy play, 63-75 overall.
Jones graduated from Half Hollow Hills West High School in
Dix Hills, New York in 1983. He was a four-year letter-winner atState University of New York at Oswego , where he earned a bachelor's degree in communications in 1987 and a master's degree in counseling in 1989.Jones began his coaching career with a three-year run as head coach at Long Island's Comsewogue High School. He joined Jay Wright's staff at
Hofstra University in 1994 and moved on toVillanova University three years later as an assistant toSteve Lappas . When Wright replaced Lappas at Villanova in 2001, Jones remained on the staff as the assistant responsible for recruiting, game scouting and on-court teaching.Jones' brother James is the head men's basketball coach at
Yale University .He provided commentary for the halftime show online during the 2008 NCAA tournament
