Shane Sanders

[http://www.shanesanders.com Shane Sanders] is an American artist, composer, designer, and digital media entrepreneur born in Crossville, Tennessee, USA, on December 8, 1967.

In 1982 he was a member of the U.S. National Chess Champion team. In 1983 he was the U.S. National Chess Champion in Category IV.

In 1999 he authored and published one of the first commercial digital texture collections, entitled "Futurehaus--Mapping the Imagination". Images from this product were used on 3D aircraft models in the film [http://www.mgm.com/hartswar/ Hart's War] starring Bruce Willis and Colin Farrell. The cover of the product box and manual for [http://www.caligari.com Caligari's TrueSpace 3D] software also utilized work from this disc. His Futurehaus related work has also been distributed internationally in the UK print publication [http://www.computerarts.co.uk/3dworld 3D World] .

Similarly in 2005, he launched another commercial digital venture called [http://www.SampleSquad.com Sample Squad] that produces exotic percussion samples for composers and multimedia developers.

His 3D modeling and animation work was featured in the [http://www.graphis.com Graphis] "- 1999 Interactive Design Annual I" for two separate projects. According to the [http://www.graphis.com Graphis] website, "Each issue of Graphis Magazine contains articles on the most accomplished individuals in Design, Advertising, Photography, and Illustration." Sanders obtained his formal musical and studio training at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville between the years 1986 and 1991. During that period he began experimenting with various forms of dissonance and musique concrète that would influence his later work in a genre often called dark ambient or sometimes "damnbient". It was predominantly an ambient work with a clear nod to academic electronic music produced by such composers as Morton Subotnick and Karlheinz Stockhausen.

Other collections, released independently, are "Dream Harvester", an EP, and the full length albums "Chemical Wedding" and "Lepidoptera". These works exhibit a more sprawling style, incorporating consonance, dissonance, and expressionist elements more or less equally. An electro-pop piece entitled "Night of Harrison's Death" may be heard on the [http://www.musiciansforasia.com Musicians for Asia] compilation CD which was released to raise money for victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
