Overview

USA Football is an independent non-profit organization whose purpose is to support and expand football at all amateur levels. The first national advocacy group created for this purpose, USA Football was launched in December 2002 and received initial funding from the National Football League and the NFL Players Association, through the NFL Youth Football Fund.

League, Club, and Team Involvement

Rather than direct leadership, USA Football works with both independent and nationally affiliated organizations by providing products, services, and funding for leagues, clubs, and teams.

USA Football does not run leagues or teams, although it supports collaboration of leagues, coaches, and teams through its [http://www.usafootball.com/ web site] 's membership program first launched during the summer of 2007. The service is powered by a solution written specifically for USA Football by nearby Orases Consulting Corporation of Frederick, MD, rather than a prepackaged solution. As a result, the USA Football Membership program is highly specific to USA Football's needs, and both includes some features not found in other similar membership programs and excludes some features that are.

The membership service varies in price from free (for League Administrators) to $19.99 and up for coaches and officials, depending on the desired membership level. A membership lasts one year and must be renewed or it will become inactive.

Representatives to Football Governing Bodies

USA Football is the designated U.S. representative to the International Federation of American Football and is responsible for the selection of the national team.

Governor's Cup

In August 2006, USA Football awarded Mississippi the Governor's Cup as the Best Football State. The criteria was based on a weighted scale developed by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The criteria was based on the amount of football played in the state weighted with the total population.
