Park Si-Hun

Si-Hun Park (born December 16, 1965) is an amateur South Korean boxer. Park won a gold medal by beating a US amateur champion Kevin Bryant in the final at World Cup Boxing in 1985, and was awarded the Light Middleweight Gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Park won the very controversial title bout against Roy Jones Jr in a highly disputed [http://www.ishkur.com/sports/olympicmoments4.php The Top10 Most Controvercial Olympic Moment] ] 3-2 decision in the final. Later scoring indicates that Jones landed 86 punches to Park's 32. One judge shortly thereafter admitted the decision was a mistake, and all three judges voting for Park were eventually suspended. The official IOC investigation concluding in 1997 found that 3 of the judges were wined and dined by Korean officials, but the IOC still officially stands by the decision. However, there was more to the story than that. The decision had its origins in the boxing competition at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. The Koreans were aggrieved that several of their gold medal hopefuls lost controversial decisions to Americans (in particular Jerry Page's win over Kim Dong-Kil, which they officially protested) and at one point threatened to withdraw from the games. This ill-feeling remained 4 years later and some say had a bearing on the Jones decision. Also, in his 3rd round bout against Vincenzo Nardiello of Italy, Nardiello easily won the first two rounds, but because Park won the 3rd round by 'a very large margin' he was given the fight. Nardiello then had to be dragged out of the ring, screaming at the judges.
