The Sukhoi S-80 is a Russian twin-turboprop, twin-boom STOL transport aircraft.

Development

Four pre-series S-80 aircraft were constructed: one static test airframe, one flying prototype, one full-size mockup and one fatigue test airframe."Air International", August 2006: "Pre-series Su-80GP First Flight"] Aircraft 01-02 made its first flight on 4 September 2001.

Variants

There are two different models of Su-80. The four pre-series aircraft were of a short-fuselage design, while the fifth, sixth and seventh prototypes were stretched by 4 ft 7 in (1.4 m) allowing an extra row of passenger seats.

Operational service

Eight aircraft from the second production (first definitive) batch are earmarked for delivery to customers.

Commercial orders

Blagoveshchensk Airlines, ChukotAvia, Dalavia, the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski Aviation Enterprise, and Polar Airlines have all signed preliminary agreements for the acquirement of the type. The KnAAPO factory airline is expected to be the Su-80s first operator.

Military Orders

The Kazakhstan Border Guards have tentatively ordered ten Su-80s, while the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force, Jordanian Air Force, Malaysian Air Force and Republic of Korea Air Force have all expressed interest.
