"Amor En Silencio" is a Mexican telenovela, produced and broadcast by
Televisa in 1988. The telenovela which starredErika Buenfil andOmar Fierro inthe lead roles, is among the most remembered from the 1980s for its famous shocking scenewhere the main heroine, Marisela(Erika Buenfil) and her fiance Fernando played byArturo Peniche are shot to death at their wedding by Fernando's lunatic sister, Mercedes played byMargarita Sanz .This famous scene aired on a Friday night and left the TV spectators in suspense until the followingMonday episode aired to find out what would happen next in the story.

The story has 2 parts. The 1st follows the story of Marisela and Fernando which are in lovebut must face the opposition of Marisela's father and hatred of both Fernando's mentally-ill sister, Mercedes and Marisela's jealous and frivolous sister, Paola. On the day of their wedding,they are murdered by Mercedes. The couple leave behind a daughter, Ana.
In the 2nd part of the story, many years pass by and Ana grows up into a beautiful woman andresembles her mother Marisela. Ana will eventually fall in love with Angel who is mute, but beforeAngel and Ana can be happy they will have to face the persecution of Ana's crazed aunt, Mercedes.
