Calgary Health Region

Calgary Health Region is the governing body for healthcare regulation in an area of the Canadian province of Alberta. The region administers facilities in the communities of:
* Airdrie
* Banff
* Black Diamond
* Canmore
* Carmangay
* Claresholm
* Didsbury
* High River
* Nanton
* Okotoks
* Strathmore
* Vulcan

The entire region is a member of the Planetree Alliance, a nonprofit association of health-care institutions, set up to promote practices to make patients less intimidated and more comfortable with the health care they receive.

Acute care facilities and health centers

Calgary Health Region administers 43 health care centres and 12 acute care sites (hospitals). Chumir Centre and Ricmond Road Diagnostic Centre (located in the old Alberta Children's Hospital building) are new care facility additions to the Calgary Health Region, and are scheduled to open 1 April 2008 and late 2009 respectively.

History

The CHR was formerly known as "Calgary Regional Health Authority" (CRHA) until 2000 when it adopted its current designation. On 1 April 2009, the CHR will merge with Edmonton's Capital Health and seven smaller provincial health regions to form one combined health region for the province of Alberta.

Headquarters

The Region is currently headquartered in the Southland Park office complex in Southwood, Calgary.

Future

The Region is scheduled to be absorbed into Alberta Health Services in 2009.
