Karawynn Long

Karawynn Long (born 1970) is an American fantasy and science fiction author. She has published an assortment of short fiction and poetry. She won the Writers of the Future Grand Prize in 1992 and in 1996 she made the preliminary Nebula ballot for novelettes and placed second in the "Asimov's" Readers' Poll for poetry.

Long grew up in Austin, Texas, attended college in Chicago, and spent two and a half years in New York City before deciding to live in Seattle. In 1996 she took a hiatus from writing in order to build up a second career as a web designer.

In 2003, Long and Jak Koke founded Per Aspera Press, an independent publisher of speculative fiction. It publishes original novels by both new and established authors.

Per Aspera Press takes its name from the Latin motto "ad astra per aspera", which translates as "To the stars through difficulties." The phrase is also the state motto of Kansas.
