Tannenzäpfle

Tannenzäpfle is a German pilsener beer from the Rothaus brewery in the Black Forest region. (The German word "Tannenzäpfle" means pine cone.) The beer is distinguished by a gold tinfoil sleeve around the top of the bottle that can be removed with a twist of the wrist. The brewery was founded in 1791 by the Abbot of Sankt Blasien and since 1806 has been owned by the state of Baden and its legal successors. The brewery was an innovator in the 1950s with the introduction of 0.33 L bottles.
