Air Force News Agency (AFNEWS) was an organization that communicated news, information, and entertainment through print and electronic media. It dissolved into the [http://www.dma.mil Defense Media Activity] on October 1st 2008. Their purpose was to keep the total force, families and the American public informed during peace and war. It had more than 480 Air Force and Army military and civilian members assigned to 28 locations worldwide. DMA San Antonio (formerly know as AFNEWS headquarters) is in San Antonio, Texas. It is made up of three major directorates, led by a command staff and complemented by the inspector general, command support, command resources and readiness, and several support functions. It also deploys a Combat News Team during certain operations and exercises.

The mission directorates are:
* Air Force News Service provides news and information via print, broadcast, and Internet products.
* Army and Air Force Hometown News Service reports on the accomplishments of Army and Air Force members, and certain U.S. Department of Defense civilians, and sends news releases to their hometown media outlets.
* Air Force Broadcasting Service manages Armed Forces Radio and Television Service outlets owned and operated by the Air Force. Its mission is to inform and entertain DOD members and their families stationed overseas.
