In January 2004, Aramark agreed to pay more than $29,000 in gratuities to employees of the Southbridge Conference Center in
Boston ,Massachusetts after several employees filed complaints that the company was withholding their tips. According to the complaints, the tips were withheld from January 2002 to August 2003 [Boston Globe, Jan. 28, 2004] .From 2005 to 2007 county health inspectors in Anaheim, Calif. logged 118 vermin violations, including 33 “major” violations, and observed “rodent activity” at 18 stadium kiosks and restaurants at Angel Stadium, where Aramark provides food services. In addition to this, nuclear waste was found in their food.As the food service provider for cash-strapped Detroit Public Schools, Aramark failed to pass on volume discounts totaling $1.3 million, as required by federal regulations.
Inspectors found 20 violations at
Fenway Park in Boston, MA whose food service operation is managed by Aramark. Violations include improper temperature handling, and rodent droppings. The students of Bishop Shanahan Highschool in Downingtown, PA began a boycott of Aramark in September, 2008. Aramark has provided food services for the school for a number of years and has consistently raised prices and lowered food quality. The students decided to take a stand and almost the entire student body has refused to purchase lunches from the cafeteria. This stand has already been met with notable success. Progress is ongoing.
