Warren Hughes is a
race car driver andinvestor from Newcastle,England . His wife's name is Roz, and they have a son named Jonathon. After a promising junior career, Hughes raced intouring car andsports car racing.In 1990, Hughes was the British Formula Ford champion, winning 19 of the 24 races. He then had 2 successful years in Formula Three, teamed with
Rubens Barrichello and laterJacques Villeneuve . He was 7th in the series in 1992 and 4th in 1993. In 1994 he first tested aFormula One car for the fading Lotus team.1996 was his first season outside open-wheel racing, in the STW Cup German Touring Car Championship with
Ford . After starting 1997 without a drive, he returned to Formula Three in late 1997, and remained there in 1998. In 1999 he contested the MGF Cup, winning half its 14 races and setting 11 fastest laps to become champion.2000 saw him first dabble in sports car racing, doing a single round of the British GT Championship, but he concentrated on Euro F3000 for Arden. He was championship runner-up, only missing the podium in 3 races.
A year later Hughes became a factory MG driver, for their projects run by
West Surrey Racing . His main duty was to develop and subsequently race theirMG ZS British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) entry, alongsideAnthony Reid . He also teamed with Reid andJonny Kane for the24 Hours of Le Mans , although the car did not finish. He again raced at Le Mans for the team in 2002.Hughes was 6th overall with 2 wins in the BTCC in 2002, and 7th with a single win in 2003, but the company's financial problems meant that he was dropped for 2004. He raced in the Le Mans Endurance Series in 2004 and 2005, also doing some rounds of the British GT series.
