- Alexandra Pascalidou
Alexandra Pascalidou (born
17 July 1970 ) is a famous Greek-Swedishjournalist ,author , and TV-presenter. She has vigorously fought for the rights of immigrants in the Swedish society and, because of this, she has been targeted many times by right-wing extremists. In a plethora of articles and television appearances she has shown the racist underpinnings of much of Swedish society but has received little support because the subject has been considered taboo. As a result of one such alleged act by right-wing extremists, she was forced to leave her apartment and hide. Photos of the assault outside her apartment that depicted skinheads making obscene gestures were published in the Swedish daily tabloid
Aftonbladet . This spurred a police investigation that proved the reporter had staged the whole scene to get a story. Meanwhile, Swedish National Television (SVT ) (where she worked at the time), instead of supporting Pascalidou, had fired her as she became too much of a "liability." A trial followed and the tabloid was found guilty.During the beginning of the new century, Alexandra Pascalidou appeared in numerous roles in Hellenic television and is a highly sought personality in her native Greece.
She is currently one of the hosts on the popular daytime lifestyle show "
Förkväll " on tv4 in Sweden. She has also been a host for the Eurovision Song Contest in one of the semifinals in 2004.
