Margaret Creighton

Margaret Creighton

Margaret S. Creighton is a well-known American historian, writer and professor at Bates College in Maine. Creighton received a Ph. D. in history from Boston University and a B.A. from Indiana University.

She is the author of many articles, essays and several popular books including The Colors of Courage: Gettysburg's Forgotten History: Immigrants, Women, And African Americans in the Civil War's Defining Battle (2005), Rites and Passages (2006), and with Lisa Norling edited the collection Iron Men, Wooden Women: Gender and Seafaring in the Atlantic World, 1700-1920.

Creighton currently teaches United States history, women's studies and African-American studies classes on topics ranging from the American Civil War and American West to the Boston Red Sox.
