Gerald Garson

Gerald Garson

Gerald P. Garson(born ca. 1932) is a Brooklyn New York Supreme Court judge convicted on judicial misconduct charges. He was accused of giving a lawyer who appeared before his bench, Paul Siminovsky, ex parte advice, as well as other gratuities. Garson has also been accused of accepting improper referral fees from the same lawyer. The alleged scheme involved "fixing" divorce cases.

In order to avoid extensive criminal penalties, Garson agreed to cooperate with Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, and to help the DA's office uncover extensive corruption within the Kings County Democratic Party with respect to how judgships within the borough are distributed.

This widespread bribery investigation eventually led to the conviction of Kings County Democratic Party head Clarence Norman Jr.

Following his conviction his lawyers indicated they will plead for leniency given Garson's reported alcoholism, bladder cancer and other medical conditions [http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1181034333544] He surrendered at a Brooklyn courthouse to begin serving his sentence on June 28th, 2007 after completing an alcohol detoxification program.
