Zorbas ("Zorba's dance") is a song by
Mikis Theodorakis , the leading Greek composer. This song is originally known as "Armenohorianos Syrtos" byGiorgis Koutsourelis . It is now commonly played and danced to in Greektaverna s in Greece and worldwide and exists as a kind of music trademark ofGreece . It is also known as "Syrtaki" which is a version of the traditional Greek "hasapiko " dance (= the butcher's dance).The song was also featured in the film "
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels ".The song is particularly infamous in Peru for its association with
Shining Path . In the early 90's, a video showing Shining Path's leadership dancing to the song during was given to the author to the media, showing that the organization's heads were hiding inLima itself.The song is also featured in the "Subdivision" (Prison Break episode) where Charles "Haywire" Patoshik raids a fat food joint and gorges himself in soda and ice cream.
