Food heritage

Food heritage

Food heritage encompasses the origins of plants and animals and their dispersal, the sites where people first cultivated plants and domesticated animals, as well as the earliest locations around the world where people first processed, prepared, sold and ate foods—these include farms, all types of mill, dairies, orchards, vineyards, breweries, restaurants and cafes, markets and groceries, hotels and inns. The history of food underlies the history of the world's people. Specific examples of food heritage subjects include: Post Cereals, scrunchions, Saratoga, New York, origin of the potato chip; Norman Borlaug boyhood farm, Copia, The Food Channel's "Unwrapped"; natural phenomena such as Mobile Bay Jubilee and the Living History Farms.

Food museums help to preserve global and local food heritage. Agropolis Museum in Montpelier, France is an example of an actual museum.
