Frank X. Altimari

Frank X. Altimari (September 4, 1928 – July 19, 1998) was a judge of several state and federal courts in New York State, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Altimari attended Saint Francis College in Brooklyn, followed by Brooklyn Law School. He worked as a lawyer in private practice in Queens, New York from 1951 to 1965. During this period, he also was a law professor at Saint Francis College and served on the school board in Westbury, New York.

Altimari's judicial career began when he was elected to the Nassau County District Court in 1965. After serving on that court for four years, he was elected to the Nassau County Court for a term beginning in 1970 and then as a justice of the New York State Supreme Court, on which he served from 1974 to 1982.

In 1982, President Ronald Reagan nominated Altimari as a judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. After Altimari served for three years on that court, Reagan promoted him to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Altimari served as an active judge of the Second Circuit for ten years, from 1985 to 1995. He assumed senior status in 1996 and died in 1998.
