- Mishti doi
Mishti Doi or Mishti Dahi (Bengali) or Mitha Dahi (Oriya) translate as sweet
dahi or sweetyogurt . This type of yoghurt is common in the states ofOrissa andWest Bengal inIndia , and inBangladesh . It is made withmilk , andsugar while also usingyogurt andcurd .Mitha Dahi is a very popular dessert in the states of West Bengal and Orissa. It is prepared by boiling milk until it is slightly thickened, adding a sweetening agent, such as sugar, "gura" (brown sugar) or "khajuri gura" (date molasses), and allowing the milk to ferment overnight. Earthenware is always used as the container as the gradual evaporation of water through its porous walls not only further thickens the yoghurt, but also produces the right temperature for the growth of the culture. Very often the yoghurt is delicately seasoned with a hint of "aleicha" (cardamoms) for fragrance.
It is a common belief among the local folks that any assignment taken after eating the Mishti Doi would be successful.
