The album features reggae vocalist Morgan Adjei. When asked about the album's title, En Esch said that the band intended it to be pronounced "like a scream or something". UAIOE began a KMFDM tradition of using five-letter words as album titles, a tradition that survived until the 2005 release of Hau Ruck. UAIOE was recorded in Hamburg, Germany.
UAIOE was released in the United States on Wax Trax! Records, in Germany on Cash Beat Records, and in the United Kingdom on Deutschland Strikeback Records.
A digitally remastered reissue of UAIOE was released September 12, 2006, along with What Do You Know, Deutschland? and Don't Blow Your Top.
