"A Brush with Fame" is an ITV television show, featuring a nationwide search to find Britain's best amateur portrait painter. It was presented by Carol Smillie, and the last episode was broadcast on 11 November 2005.

Format

Sixty people in each of nine regions were given half an hour to produce a self portrait using materials supplied by the programmers. Then, while the artists take a break, Carol and two judges look at the painted pictures and choose 25 people to go into the next round and paint a celebrity guest. This time the artists can use their own materials and any medium. Out of the 25, the judges then choose 10 who will go on to the next round and paint a second celebrity. Out of the 10, one finalist is selected and also one wild card show contestant who will compete with 8 others from the other regions in a wild card show for the chance to join the nine finalists in London.

Final

The final, broadcast in November 2005, was presented by Eamonn Holmes, instead of Carol Smillie. The winner would receive a cheque for £10,000 and also the opprtunity to turn professional, with the offer of a deal with leading art publisher, Washington Green.

Axed

It was announced by ITV in January 2006, that "A Brush With Fame" will not return for a second series.
