October 27 1939 ) is a retired French football player. He was born in theFrench commune of Charvieu, located in the "département" ofIsère and is ethnicallyKalmyk . He made his debut as a professional footballer playing for Lyon in a match against Limoges onDecember 28 1958 . Though he started out as astriker , he was famous for his work ascentral defender and appeared in over 500 matches in the French football league. He spent a total of 16 seasons with the league, during which he played with only three clubs (eight seasons with Lyon, four with Marseille, and four withParis FC ). He won theCoupe de France (French Cup) twice, the first time with Lyons in 1964 and the second with Marseille in 1969. Djorkaeff also played for France in the1966 World Cup . He is the father ofYouri Djorkaeff who played for France in the1998 World Cup and the 2000 Euro Cup. He also coached theArmenia national football team .Today he serves as the director of the Coupe de France commission.
