Zhenhai ,Zhejiang province on10 October 1903 . He is now the oldest member of both theAcademia Sinica and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is the founder, the first chief director and current honorary director of the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences.He is a pioneer of Chinese
cytology ,embryology and the founder of Chinesebiophysics . He is considered the "Father of Chinese Biophysics". Theasteroid 31065 Beishizhang was named in his honour on the occasion of his 100th birthday.He obtained his doctorate from the University of Tübingen (
