Somerville, New JerseyDouglas Urbanski (born February 17, 1957) is an American theater impresario, raconteur and film producer.[1]
Urbanski is a business partner with actor Gary Oldman and he also runs a talent management firm, DMG.[2] When he is not producing motion pictures, the self described "Conservative, Capitalist, Catholic" is also known as "America's Guest Host",[3] speaking to millions, having filled in for Laura Ingraham (2005 & 2008), Michael Savage (2006–07), Fred Thompson (2009–10), Dennis Miller (2008), Bill O'Reilly (2008–09) and Rush Limbaugh (2010).[4][5]
Urbanski's film producing credits include The Contender, which received two Academy Award Nominations and starred Gary Oldman, Jeff Bridges, Joan Allen, Christian Slater, and Sam Elliott, and Nil By Mouth, written and directed by Gary Oldman for which Urbanski received the 1997 British Academy Award for Outstanding British Film of the Year, and for which Oldman received the Best Original Screenplay British Academy Award. The film received a total of 4 nominations for the 1997 BAFTA's. For 1997's Cannes Film Festival, Nil By Mouth was selected to inaugurate the Main Competition and received the 1997 Cannes Film Festival Award for actress Kathy Burke. In 1998 the film received six nominations for the British Independent Film Awards, and won three awards.
During the 1980s, Urbanski and/or his companies were active theatrical producers on Broadway and in London.[6]
In 2010, he is featured in David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's motion picture The Social Network, playing the role of Larry Summers, for which he shared the Hollywood Ensemble Acting Award[7][8] from the Hollywood Film Festival along with Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake. Also in 2010/11 he Executive Produced the film version of John leCarre's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, which stars Gary Oldman as master spy George Smiley, and also features Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, and Kathy Burke and is directed by Tomas Alfredson.[9][10]
Urbanski is married to television producer Diane Wilk (The Nanny).
