The College of Mass Communication was founded through the PLM Board of Regents Resolution along with the establishment of the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Science on
January 31 ,2003 .Tracing from its roots, the degree Bachelor in Mass Communication was first offered in 1968, and was founded by [http://www.aijc.com.ph/pccf/mediamuseum/who'who/whos'who-comm-ed-carpio.htm Dr. Rustica Carpio] , a respected name in the field of mass media. Mass communication courses were then under the College of Communication Arts until it eventually merged with the College of Arts and Sciences.
In 2003, from a mere department under the PLM College of Arts and Sciences, headed by Prof. Evelyn Sebastian, it finally obtained its college status. August 2003.] Dr. Julieta Hernandez was designated as acting dean of the College; and in July 16 of the same year, Dr. Romeo M. Barrios was named as the first dean of the College, holding the post for three years. Ms. Ludmila Labagnoy was designated as the College Secretary. During this period, the University has started active recruitment of media workers, principally as special lecturers and part-time faculty, to address the problem of the lack of actual hands-on expertise among its teaching staff. cite web

quote =]The batch of 2004 were the first batch to graduate under the College of Mass Communication. To make their presence felt, they produced numerous feats for the college and for the school. For instance, the selected PLM-CMC graduating class brought home the Best Music Video for the 2003 Metropop Song Festival for the song "Pretend That I Don't Love You" by Cookie Chua and written by Mike Villegas. Students of the same batch organized a speech and debate group that gave PLM 4 championship trophies and several gold medals in public speaking. Curt Urbanozo (PLM-CMC 2004) represented the country in the Korea-ASEAN Future-Oriented Cooperation Project: Youth Exchange Program in Seoul, South Korea as the LONE NCR representative of the 10-man Filipino team. The school year ended for the first CMC batch with Mr. Urbanozo getting the first-ever PLM Presidential Award (Most Outstanding University Student) for the college after participating in almost all activities that gave PLM and the College of Mass Communication pride and honor.
In June 2006, Prof. Gemma Dela Cruz was installed as the new Dean of the College of Mass Communication, while Ms. Angelica Polintan was appointed as the College Secretary. Recently, the "Project: Brite Star," a medium-term plan that comprises the College’s best practices, topnotch instructors, enhancement of facilities and inculcation of GROOVE values to Mass Communication students, were introduced. Admission and Retention
A student must obtain a grade of at least 2.00 or better in his English and Filipino Subjects; and maintain a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 2.25 or better.

Notable alumni of the College of Mass Communication include award-winning screenwriters Adolf Alix Jr. and
Roy Iglesias ; stage and TV personalityMichael V. ; TV Executives Wilma Galvante of GMA 7, Roberto Del Rosario of IBC 13, and Edith del Rosario-RPN 9; directors and independent movie producers Romel Gacho, Real Florido and Florida Bautista; TV/radio reporters Karen Golfo, David Ramos Jr. and Julius Anthony Segovia; and fictionist Emeniano Acain Somoza, Jr.In the corporate world, notable PLM Mass Communication alumni have steadily climbed up the ladder in professions like advertising, telemarketing, telecommunications, creative communications, public relations, events management, corporate/marketing communications, and brand management. CMC alumni like Serge Rodriguez, Curt Urbanozo, Elaine De Luna, Joan Carla Guevarra, Agustin Agustin and Joan Dela Cruz among others paved their way to the top.
cholarships
The "Samahang Plaridel", the Blas F. Ople Policy Center and Training Institute and the PLM signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) granting scholarships in journalism to children of journalists under the Blas F. Ople Journalism Scholarships.
The MOA was signed by the Manila Mayor Jose "Lito" Atienza, the PLM President Dr. Benjamin G. Tayabas, the PLM Communications Director Alito L. Malinao, the Samahang Plaridel’s Rodolfo T. Reyes and Labor Undersecretary Susan Ople, representing the Blas F. Ople Institute.
The qualified applicants are accepted as scholars for a four-year course in mass communication, with free tuition and miscellaneous fees. They are also exempted from PLM’s Manila residency requirement for admission.
Under the MOA, four scholars were initially accommodated in 2006. Application forms for scholarship were made available at the "Samahang Plaridel" office along T.M. Kalaw Street in
Ermita ,Manila .References
