2008 , the town has a population which exceeds 35,797 people and a density of 1,266.56 persons per km². The total area is 25.66 km². Seika, although largely agriculturally based, has in recent years become the center of a national project of theKansai Science City and has been referred to as the "New Culture Capital" of Japan.Located at the southern tip of Kyoto Prefecture, the area around Seika has historically been considered a cultural corridor between the two ancient capitals of Kyoto and Nara cities. Located adjacent to the
Kizu River , Seika has rich, fertile land ideal for agricultural production.The Strawberry Hunt Festival is famous and has many visitors. Famous sights are the
National Diet Library and the My Work Museum. In 1951 Seika village was incorporated from three previous villages. In 1955 Seika town became a new name. Seika town has a high school, 3 junior high schools, and 5 elementary schools. Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT ),Matsushita Electric ,Kyocera and others have facilities in the town.
