Maria Carrillo High School is a high school in Santa Rosa, California[2], a mid-sized city about sixty miles north of San Francisco. Maria Carrillo High School is the newest public high school in both Santa Rosa and in Sonoma County, having opened in 1996. It is located in the northeastern part of Santa Rosa, also known as "Rincon Valley".[3]

History

Maria Carrillo High School was originally named after Maria Carrillo, the first woman to receive a land grant from the Spanish-Mexican government. The school opened in 1996. Its first graduating class was in 1999.

  • Highest average scores in the Santa Rosa City School District for the past five years on the Scholastic Aptitude Test in both Critical Reading (570), Mathematics (596), and Writing (572)[6]
  • Highest pass rates in the Santa Rosa City School District for the past five years on the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) in both English-Language Arts (94%) and mathematics (97%)[6]
  • Numerous teachers have received national, state and regional certification and recognition (e.g. National Board Certification)
