EMAP Tyne and Wear is a local commercial digital radio multiplex in the United Kingdom, which serves the
Tyne and Wear television area.The service launched on
31 November 2000 . EMAP Tyne and Wear is transmitted on frequency block 11C from theBurnhope andFenham transmitters. EMAP was the only applicant for the Tyne & Wear licence by the closing date of August 10 1999. Burnhope is the main signal. Later possible transmitters would be atAlnwick (Shilbottle ) andChatton once local adoption of digital radios reached 31%. This never happened. It was awarded the licence on October 4 1999, having been advertised on April 21 1999.MXR North East transmits national stations from the same two transmitters.Transmitted Stations
