The original name of the district was Nakhon Noi. In 1916, it was renamed to Tha Ruea to commemorate an important history within the district.
When the hunter Bun found the Buddha's footprint in
Sara Buri Province , KingSongtham traveled by his royal barge along thePa Sak River to worship. He parked his royal barge at the territory of the district, and continued his travel on the land. This route has since become a royal tradition, as later kings always traveled by this way to worship Buddha's footprint inWat Phra Phutthabat . The Thai word "Tha Ruea" means port or pier.Geography
