William Wallace . It was the home to the world famousStoddard Carpets . The original primary school, Wallace Primary, was situated on the Main Road; the current building opened around 1974. The two Church of Scotland parishes, Elderslie West and Elderslie East, amalgamated around 1977. Worshippers now meet in the former West church, renamed Elderslie Kirk. The stream running through the village is known as the Brandy Burn. A children's home existed in Auchenlodment Road until recent years. The building is now a care home.History
